Taylor Swift is back with a bang and is currently taking the streaming world by storm!
Taylor Swift has broken the internet, literally shattering it into pieces with the release of her highly anticipated new single “Look What You Made Me Do,” the first single to be released from her forthcoming album, Reputation. The song was released on streaming platforms on Thursday (Aug 24) and the music video shortly followed premièring at MTV’s Video Music Awards on Sunday evening (August 27.)
As I write this, the video – which was later uploaded to Taylor’s official VEVO page – has managed to accumulate over 38 million views, rack up over 1 million likes and has went on to break the previous record held for the visual of this years’ global smash “Despacito” remix feat. Justin Bieber: which managed to rack up 22 million views in 24 hours earlier this year. In addition to smashing Adele’s record of clocking up 27 million views within 24 hours back in 2015 with her music video for “Hello”
The record breaking doesn’t stop there too, as Taylor also took Spotify by storm with the release of her new song. Upon its premiere on the music streaming platform the song quickly managed to become the most streamed song on its global day of release, shattering her buddy Ed Sheeran’s record of 6.9 million streams within 24 with the release of ‘Shape of You’. It has also been reported that the song has also broke a new record over at Apple Music by also becoming the most streamed song within a 24 hour time frame on the platform.
Releasing the music video so shortly after the song premiered was a smart move by Taylor’s camp, doing so ignited the interest and buzz around the song to dizzying heights. The new single is projected to sell over 550k copies in pure sales alone, which is very impressive given the ever-growing popularity of streaming platforms.
The lyric video has also gone on to become the most streamed lyric video within 24 hours of release, surpassing and breaking the record held by The Chainsmokers feat. Coldplay for “Something Just Like This.” The video currently has 44 million views and has attracted over 8.8 million viewers daily since its release just five days ago! (Aug 24)
Welcome back, Taylor.
