The first trailer for Insidious 4 has arrived to guarantee that you won’t catch a wink of sleep anytime soon. The fourth installment of James Wan’s horror franchise is titled ‘Insidious: The Last Key’, and is the first film within the saga to move away from the previous chapter titles from the previous two films.
The trailer sees cast regular Lin Shaye back as parapsychologist Elisa Rainer, which is an amazing feat considering her character was bumped off in the first outing back In 2010. Rainer will be investigating the paranormal goings on in her former home in High Keys, New Mexico, with the help of Tucker (Angus Sampson) and Specs (Leigh Whanell)
Dishing some details about the fourth chapter in an interview with Dread Central, Lin Shaye revealed:
“[Insidious: Chapter 4] goes back to Elise’s beginnings,” says Shaye. “And you also meet Elise at a very different point in her life. It takes place right after the end of Chapter 3, when she walks off with Specs and Tucker and they’re starting their company, Spectral Sightings, and they are now living at her home. They’re like her two sons, her two bad sons.”
“So it starts out in a very jovial, happy place and then goes downhill from there. And downhill meaning uphill, though. It’s a fantastic story and it took me back into what made Elise who she is. You meet my family, my mother, my father—we go back to my hometown, which is in New Mexico. And so that’s where this takes place and her quest to find the bad guy that’s been haunting her. It’s a really wonderful story. I think the fans will really, really enjoy it. And it’s scary on levels they’re not going to expect.”
It was announced earlier this year that Insidious: The Last Key would be coming at a later date in January 2018, with Blumhouse’s Happy Death Day – a new Groundhog Day meets Scream slasher – taking Insidious’ original October slot
Insidious: The Last Key will be haunting cinemas in the US on January 5, 2018 and UK cinemas from January 12, 2018.
